Special Programs

Welcoming a new addition to Special Programs…

A new, smiling face at the West Hawai‘i Elderly Activities Division’s Special Programs office, is none other than Recreation Technician II, Kelly Hudik.

Kelly migrated from Northwest Ohio after working at the Parks & Recreation there for 10 years. She decided to escape the cold weather and move to Kailua-Kona where there’s no excuse not to play outside and go run, bike, or swim.

Her first day at the West Hawai‘i Special Programs office was on September 16th, just a few days prior to the Hawai‘i Kupuna Hula Festival. Not truly knowing what was in store for her, her real orientation began immediately upon her coming onto the job, and quickly grasping the “haps” of the event, besides taking the responsibility of overseeing the main sales and ticket tables during the two days at the Festival. That’s what you call, OJT (on-the-job-training)!!

Besides assisting the SP’s Program Director, and her counterpart in E. Hawai‘i, to coordinate and implement island-wide, statewide, and international events, Kelly’s responsibility takes her out to 10 Sr. centers (from North Kohala to Pahala), as well as, to all of the West HI Nutrition sites to disseminate program events information and to encourage their participation.

We are deeply proud of Kelly passing her first survivor’s test at the last Kupuna Hula Festival, and look forward towards her continued energies and dedication to the program and division in the years ahead.

WELCOME KELLY!!

Kupuna News 7 April – June, 2009
