John also reported on the status of the 2014/2015 CIP monies <br />138 <br />available for Kamehameha Park, and reported that progress has been made <br />139 <br />towards Halaula Well. <br />140 <br />141 <br />D. <br />Power, View Planes, and Erosion Control: Report from Susan Fischer <br />142 <br />143 <br />Ms. Fischer reported that the subcommittee is looking at view planes and <br />144 <br />highway safety concerns relating to whale watching and are looking at PONC <br />145 <br />funds to purchase land for pull out spots along the highway. <br />146 <br />147 <br />E. <br />Affordable Housing: Report by Jack Hoyt. <br />148 <br />Mr. Hoyt said he is the only person on the subcommittee at this point. He has <br />149 <br />talked to staff at the Office of Housing and Community Development and how <br />150 <br />housing programs relate to North Kohala. Mr. Hoyt said that most projects <br />151 <br />involve state and federal housing, usually a minimum of 30 to 100 units and <br />152 <br />that he is looking into alternative routes to providing units for North Kohala. <br />153 <br />154 <br />F. <br />Agricultural Updates: Report by Lani Eugenio. <br />155 <br />Ms. Eugenio reported that the subcommittee is looking at different agricultural <br />156 <br />plants and animals that can use this land and employment and gave an example <br />157 <br />of a farmer that hires people from within the community rather than from <br />158 <br />outside of Hawaii. <br />159 <br />160 <br />G. <br />Historical and Cultural Preservation: Report by Faye Yates <br />161 <br />Ms. Yates reported that a lot of historical research has already been <br />162 <br />accomplished in the community and that their subcommittee is looking at doing <br />163 <br />activities with the Kapuna and children, such as riding horses and sharing <br />164 <br />cultural traditions. She also reported that there is a group working at summer <br />165 <br />fun with the Kapuna and children making sushi and summer rolls. <br />166 <br />167 <br />VI. <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS: <br />168 <br />David Tarnas stated in regards to subject of health care facilities in Kohala, that <br />169 <br />it would be a good idea to invite a state representative to an AC meeting to <br />170 <br />inform them of their concerns. <br />171 <br />172 <br />Councilmember Margaret Wille said that the AC needed to submit to Planning <br />173 <br />Director a recommendation to get projects at Mahukona funded as a CIP project. <br />174 <br />Ms. Wille said in regards to water and affordable housing that there has been <br />175 <br />work for two years to get a new well. Ms. Wille said that the in regards to the <br />176 <br />health services issue, that certain areas are part of a health charter amendment <br />177 <br />and that the AC should look at environmental health, economic wellbeing and <br />178 <br />community health. <br />179 <br />180 <br />VII. <br />SET AGENDA FOR NEXT MEETING <br />
