HAWAII POLICE COMMISSION <br />REGULAR SESSION MINUTES <br />DECEMBER 8, 2016 <br />DEPARTMENT OF LIQUOR CONTROL <br />101 AUPUNI ST., STE. 230, HILO, HAWAII <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Chair Schutte called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. <br />ROLL CALL <br />Present: Guy Schutte, Chair <br />Keith Morioka, Vice Chair <br />Arthur Buckman, Commissioner <br />Carl Carlson, Commissioner <br />Wayne De Luz, Commissioner <br />Robert Gomes, Sr., Commissioner <br />Peter Hendricks, Commissioner <br />Paul Paiva, Commissioner <br />Absent: Jak Hu, Commissioner <br />A quorum was present. <br />Also Present: Harry Kubojiri, Police Chief <br />Paul Ferreira, Deputy Chief <br />Malia Ho, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />Josie Pelayo, Secretary <br />APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br />Commissioner Gomes motioned to approve the agenda. Vice Chair Morioka seconded, and <br />it carried unanimously. <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br />POLICE CHIEF HARRY KUBOJIRI came before the commission and spoke in support of <br />Deputy Chief Paul Ferreira for Police Chief. He stated that he has known Paul Ferreira for <br />many years. He has the leadership qualities required for the position. He is knowledgeable <br />of the budget, hiring, and discharge process. He is the brainchild behind his administration. <br />It will be an easy transition with him. <br />LINCOLN ASHIDA, ATTORNEY, came before the commission and spoke in support of <br />Deputy Chief Paul Ferreira as Police Chief. He stated that Paul Ferreira is both a cop and an <br />administrator. He is such a good administrator, that you forget he's a cop. He worked with <br />Paul Ferreira while he was a prosecuting attorney and then as Corporation Counsel. He <br />humbly encouraged the commission to select Paul Ferreira as Police Chief. <br />
