<br /> <br />Regular Session Minutes <br />January 20, 2016 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br /> <br /> Commendations of Sworn and Civilian Employees: Chief Ferreira reported receiving <br />5 commendations since the last meeting involving 29 personnel. He thanked the <br />commissioners for attending the last held <br />every month in different district. All commissioners are welcome to attend. The next <br />meeting is in February in Kamuela. <br /> <br /> Other Departmental Activities: Chief Ferreira stated that the Chief does not know <br />who is on the promotions list. The Assessment Board gives him their <br />recommendation. If the Board or Chief believes the list is not suitable, they will not <br />fill the position. They could ask County HR for an additional list. They want to have <br />an ongoing recruit class even if they only have one or two vacancies. At last count, <br />they had 38 officers who now qualify for retirement. The county is on a status quo <br />minus 5% budget. Being creative, they use the COPS grants for some funding. <br />then turned over to the Council, and then it <br />year they request additional staffing. Sworn personnel has increased but not the <br />civilian staff. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br />Correspondence No. 17-01: From Police Chief Paul Ferreira, Annual Misconduct <br />Report to the State Legislature. Deputy Chief Bugado reported that this report only has <br />suspensions and dismissals. There were no comments. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Selection of Vice Chair of the Police Commission for 2017: Chair Morioka stated that <br />Commissioner Gomes stepped down as Vice Chair, so they need to select a new Vice <br />Chair. Commissioner Schutte nominated Commissioner Hendricks as Vice Chair. <br />Commissioner De Luz seconded, and it carried unanimously. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS (New Assignments) <br />After discussion, it was agreed that committees would be assigned when needed. <br /> <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION <br />Commissioner Schutte motioned to meet in executive session to consider discipline and <br />charges against officers or employees o to consider <br />sensitive matters relating to public safety, to review the evaluation of the Police Chief, <br />and may consult with Corporation Counsel on questions and issues pertaining to the <br />to HRS 92- <br />-20 (b). Commissioner <br />Hendricks seconded, and it carried unanimously. Executive session convened at 10:15 <br />a.m. <br /> <br />Regular session reconvened at 12:05 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />
