STEPHENSON: I do not. <br />HENKEL: Okay, what further comments do you have on that? <br />STEPHENSON: I think it pertains to being a part of the community—my concerns are equal <br />with the neighborhood, and in hopes of obtaining the permit here, that would make me an active <br />and engaged participant in the neighborhood with absolute concerns in upholding what <br />everyone's concerns are and address them accordingly. <br />HENKEL: Okay, thank you. Is that all? <br />STEPHENSON: Would <br />HENKEL: —Well, I'm going to ask the Commission if they have questions of you and the <br />Applicant so you can respond to those also. <br />STEPHENSON: Okay, sure. <br />HENKEL: Commissioners, are there any questions of the Applicant? Okay, then you may be <br />seated. <br />STEPHENSON: Okay. <br />HENKEL: Thank you. <br />VALDEZ: Are you done? Am I supposed to go? <br />HENKEL: Would you like to speak? <br />VALDEZ: Yes, sir, I would. <br />HENKEL: Okay, please speak into the microphone, though. <br />VALDEZ: Would I, am I allowed that, sir? Forgive me, but I've gone through such stress over this <br />because of my former person that I have lost most of my eyesight. I can no longer read without a <br />magnifying glass. I did not know stress could do such a terrible thing, so bear with me, please. <br />I was here over 40 some odd years ago with my husband when we built Hilo Val Hala. I'm not a <br />stranger, a newcomer to Hilo. Only I have bought a house next, I bought Dante Carpenter's <br />house next door to the lighthouse. I've tried to live here, sirs. And, unfortunately, I was shot 12 <br />years ago five times and died, and I've been trying to get a house that I could live in, and I can't. <br />I'm scared of my own shadow.
