Fire Commission <br />Regular Session Minutes <br />March 8, 2017 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br /> <br />o Ocean Safety: Two Water Safety Officers will receive the Wake of Fame <br />Heavy Water Award for 2016. HFD is providing testimony on legislative <br />bills that may impact their Ocean Safety Division. The East <br /> hold <br />a WSO PAE on March 14 to fill the vacancy in Kona and temporary <br />summer hires in Hilo and Puna. <br /> <br /> Support Services Division <br /> Training: They are working with County physicians and HR to establish criteria <br />th <br />for HFD annual physical exams. They are preparing for the 45 Fire Fighter <br />Recruit class. <br /> <br /> Volunteer Training: John Bertsch, New Volunteer Commander from Station <br />Bravo, distributed a report on the volunteer program. He stated that he has <br />been a volunteer for 20 years. He will promote safety and wants to increase <br />the volunteer program. Most of the volunteers are in it to serve the Big Island, <br />and he is very proud of them. With the help of Chief Rosario, there has been a <br />shift in morale and acceptance of the volunteers. Chief Rosario stated that the <br />station visits should be scheduled through his office. <br /> <br /> EMS Bureau: EMS and FMS personnel attended grant-funded national <br />training conferences. An RFI was put out for replacement defibrillators. <br />Senate and House bills for an additional ambulance for Puna continues to <br />advance at the legislature. HMSA is interested in assisting with the pilot <br />Community Paramedic Project. <br /> <br /> Auxiliary Services: Radio training for the digital system continues. Installation <br />of the Spillman CAD on Medic 1 is scheduled, and testing will be done. <br /> <br /> Records: Working on achieving a 10-day or less turn-around for records <br />requests. <br /> <br /> New Projects: HFD will be hosting the Hawaii Fire Conference. They will <br />also be hosting a Cardiac Conference at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course. The <br />Central Fire Station Renovation Project is on hold while DPW considers hiring a <br />consultant. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS (No reports.) <br /> Budget and Finance <br /> Office Management and Staffing <br /> Rules and Policies <br /> Public Relations <br /> Training and Education <br /> Rules and Regulations Review Committee <br /> <br /> <br />
