Simeon, P.E. <br />Deputy Director <br />SUBJECT: Response to county of Hawaii's, Department of Human Resources, Hiring <br />Practices Audit — Report No. 2017-03 <br />Thank you for the opportunity to provide our responses to the audit recommendations. <br />Administrative <br />Recommendation: <br />While the SRC has already been eliminated, we recommend the office of the Mayor <br />and the Department of Human Resources ensure that hiring selection rests solely with <br />the appointing authority and prevents preferential treatment of new hire candidates. <br />This may include updating policies and procedures, the county Charter, and/or the <br />County code. <br />We further recommend the office of the Mayor and the Department of Human <br />Resources consider implementing an independent whistleblower program and system <br />to allow anonymous complaints to be reported. <br />Department Response: <br />The Department of Public Works will abide by and follow any and all updated policies <br />and procedures from the office of the Mayor and the Department of Human Resources. <br />County of Hawaii is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer. <br />Department's Comments 22 1 P a g e <br />
