COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN ACTION COMMITTEE (CDPAC) <br />Action Committees consist of nine volunteer residents from the CDP planning area who serve as <br />stewards of the community's plan through facilitating implementation and recommending updates as <br />needed. Committee members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Hawai'i County <br />Council. The Action Committee should reflect a wide variety of perspectives and represent a broad <br />spectrum of the community. Volunteers should be community minded. <br />Desired Attributes: <br />1. Broad representation of the community. Each Action Committee should represent, as broadly as <br />possible, the diverse perspectives, geography, culture, etc. of the CDP planning area. <br />2. Community -minded attitude. Action Committee Members should possess the following values: A deep <br />passion and love for their community; a commitment to ensure implementation of the CDP; the <br />importance of citizen responsibility and participation in both the community planning and <br />implementation phases; work for the greater good of the community. <br />3. Effective collaborator. Action Committee Members should demonstrate ability to effectively <br />collaborate with Action Committee Members to achieve group objectives. Members should also be <br />effective at building partnerships with community members, agencies, and other organizations. <br />4. Knowledge/Skills. Possess knowledge or skills that will contribute to effective implementation of the <br />CDP. <br />Minimum Requirements: <br />1. Residency. Principal residence is in the CDP planning area. <br />2. Duration of Commitment. Willing and able to commit to a term of up to four years. <br />3. Time Commitment. CDP Action Committee meetings are held either every other month or monthly. <br />Members must be willing and able to attend monthly Action Committee meetings, invest a minimum of <br />6-8 hours of work each month in-between meetings (e.g., reviewing documents, committee <br />communications, and other information, preparing comments and recommendations on draft <br />proposals and amendments prior to meetings, liaising with community groups and individuals, <br />participating in subcommittees as needed). <br />4. Learning Commitment. Willing and able to attend training workshops about planning and related <br />issues, and participate in trainings as needed. <br />5. Action Commitment. Willing and able to help organize and attend public meetings, workshops, etc. <br />6. Collaboration Commitment. Agree to follow meeting ground rules and operating principles of the <br />Action Committee and Planning Department. <br />Varying Perspectives: Action Committee Members should represent varying perspectives of the <br />communities they represent. Including but not limited to: <br />1. Agriculture <br />2. Alternative Energy <br />3. Arts/Cultural <br />4. Business/Local Economy <br />5. Education <br />6. Environment/Natural Resource Preservation <br />7. Historic/Cultural preservation <br />1 <br />8. Health/Human Services <br />9. Landowners/Private Subdivision Associations <br />10.
