Varying lengths of residence: Action Committee Members should represent varying years of residency to <br />provide broad perspectives. <br />1. Less than 5 years <br />2. 6 to 10 years <br />3. More than 10 years (but less than life) <br />4. Life <br />Attitude: Action Committee Members should exhibit the following attitudes. <br />1. Willing to be a part of a new and evolving community implementation process with a flexible and <br />receptive mindset. <br />2. Willing to engage individual network of family, associates and organizations in order to broaden <br />community input. <br />3. Interested in learning about the planning process and principles (attend training sessions, study provided <br />informational materials, etc.). <br />4. "Can do" attitude with optimism moderated by realism. <br />5. Open-minded when considering the strengths and weaknesses of "old" and "new" approaches and <br />strategies. <br />6. Process and task oriented — how you arrive at your outcomes are equally important to the outcomes <br />desired. <br />7. Willing and able to work with and collaborate with people who may have different points of view. <br />8. Respect and appreciation for other cultures and perspectives besides their own. <br />9. Willing to work with a variety of government and non-government entities through collaboration and <br />partnership building. <br />10. Appreciates and understands the diverse priorities within communities. <br />11. Values the greater good of the community more than one's own agenda. <br />Knowledge: Action Committee members should have a basic understanding of the following: <br />1. Understanding of the geographic and historical context of the CDP area. <br />2. Familiarity with a broad range of individuals and/or groups within the community. <br />3. Cultural understanding of Hawai'i's mufti -ethnic society. <br />4. Experience, knowledge, or skillset applicable to implementing CDP goals and objectives. <br />5. General understanding of the land use and/or planning process. <br />6. Understanding of County government structure, areas of responsibility and relationship to State and <br />Federal government <br />Skills and Experience: Action Committee Members should possess the following: <br />1. Ability to work collaboratively as a team player on complex and controversial issues. <br />2. Ability to follow through with assignments/tasks. <br />3. Experience in community visioning and/or long range planning. <br />4. Experience in community outreach and the use of multiple outreach strategies and tools. <br />5. Ability to listen effectively so as to achieve greater understanding. <br />6. Training and/or experience as a group facilitator. <br />7. Problem solving skills. <br />8. Professional or personal training or experience that might be useful in community planning activities <br />(artistic, grant writing, financial planning, engineering, resource management, project <br />organization/management, etc.). <br />2 FORM B <br />
