There were no questions from the Commissioners.
Dorrance: Since we have the two liquor licenses, do we still have to do the public
hearing? Is it being treated like a new license or is it just to let the neighbors know?
Can we start doing a little brewing there?
Takase: At the Kawaihae location?
Dorrance: Yes, at the Blue Dragon.
Takase: Yes. If it was under Blue Dragon, you still could. But since it's moving a
different license down there, we're requiring the public notice again. Hopefully, you
won't have any problems.
Dorrance: No, it should be okay. I'm just thinking, is there any other creative way like
maybe change the Blue Dragon one to the Craft Class?
Takase: How soon are you going to be able to brew?
Dorrance: It will probably be up to the other Departments. Finishing the wastewater,
getting signed off on this.
Takase: You will be able to brew from us come April 1st. I didn't anticipate you were
going to be ahead of that.
Dorrance: Okay, right.
Takase: But, you could still re -open Blue Dragon if you wanted to serve. But, I'm just
telling you there's still some other issues you have to take care of.
Dorrance: Yes.
Takase: You could re -open Blue Dragon as a restaurant and serve liquor. You just
couldn't brew at that location until April 1st
Dorrance: So, the hearing is really about adding the brew component?
Takase: And just notifying them that it's a different Licensee even though you're kind of
the same.
Dorrance: Commission, that's the other underlying organizational thing that we would
do is do a lease. We would lease Kawaihae Spirits LLC to Kohala Village Hub & Shop.
That's my understanding, unless we need to dissolve that and become it. But I think we
can handle that with a lease.
Nahale-a: Your intention is to get the Blue Dragon up and running again as a food
service place?
Dorrance: It would have to change, I mean, you guys were probably the only ones
making money on it before, so we would have to change the operations.
