Page 51 <br />1 MR. FRATINARDO: Sure. <br />2 CHR. ONO: Okay. Sunshine Law. Okay. <br />3 So we thought it would be a great idea to have someone <br />4 give us a mini -briefing on the Sunshine Law. You know, <br />5 one thing we don't want to do is go through a whole <br />6 bunch of exercises over here and have our findings <br />7 compromised because we violated the Sunshine Law. And <br />8 following the Sunshine Law is not an easy thing, <br />9 especially if you're used to the old days like I am. <br />10 So, if you would, Amy, please. <br />11 MS. SELF: Thank you. <br />12 I'm only going to highlight sections that I <br />13 think would involve this commission. There's a lot of <br />14 stuff in the Sunshine Law that doesn't really apply to <br />15 you guys. <br />16 But the way I would like to start out is <br />17 explain that the whole reason behind Sunshine Law is to <br />18 have everything public, have meetings be held in front <br />19 of the public, so that it gives the public the <br />20 opportunity to participate with their government, how <br />21 policies are made, and whatever. What they don't want <br />22 to do is have back -door deals being done; so I find it <br />23 humorous that the legislature did not have themselves <br />24 have to comply with Sunshine Law. <br />25 So, it applies to boards and commissions <br />ISLAND COURT REPORTING & TRANSCRIPTION SERVICES <br />(808) 933-9800 <br />
