Page 11
Civil Defense. Okay. That's September 11th.
From then on I've had Civil Defense duty all the
time I've been in corporation counsel. Now that I'm back, I
have it again. Again, you're on standby 24 hours a day, all
year long. Only when you're on vacation and you're off
island and you cannot respond within twenty minutes, that's
the only time you're off. And then somebody else picks it
up.
Other than that, you're on call 24 hours a day.
That means your phone is right by your head. Anytime you get
a text alert, even if it's the nice police department doing
their duty and telling you that, yes, it's raining, and Bay
Front is closed. It goes off at two o'clock in the morning.
You wake up, you get the call.
So there's a lot of uncompensated time that your
attorneys do that other counties, I don't think they follow
the same things. They have a larger staff and they have more
people who are dedicated for 24-hour service. So that's it.
If you have any questions?
CHR. ONO: Any questions of Jay or any comments?
MR. HARANO: Jay, you are on attorney?
MR. MASUDA: Yes.
MR. HARANO: Okay.
MR. MASUDA: I was with the prosecutor's office --
CHR. ONO: Jay is over there. I meant Craig.
ISLAND COURT REPORTING & TRANSCRIPTION SERVICES
(808) 933-9800
