Page 23 <br />1 the people in this room because 2008's the last pay raise we <br />2 got, in 2008, the legislature for the State of Washington <br />3 said that if the legislature finds that the responsibilities <br />4 and decisions required of the elected prosecuting attorney <br />5 are essentially the same in every county within Washington <br />6 State, from the decision to seek the death penalty in an <br />7 aggravated murder case to the decision not to prosecute but <br />8 refer an offender to drug court, from the decision to pursue <br />9 child rape charges based solely upon the testimony of the <br />10 child to a decision to divert juvenile offenders out of the <br />11 justice system - therefore, the legislature finds that the <br />12 elected prosecuting attorneys need to exercise the same level <br />13 of skill and experience in the least populous county as in <br />14 the most populous. <br />15 The legislature finds that the salary of the <br />16 elected county prosecuting attorney should be tied to that of <br />17 the superior court judge.
