I swung by the prosecuting <br />3 attorney's office last week, and I spoke with a couple of the <br />4 newer deputies, and I spoke with you. I had a question for <br />5 you about how much it cost for you to attend college back in <br />6 the day compared with a couple of the deputies that had <br />7 enormous school loans. <br />8 So how does your prosecuting attorney's office -- <br />9 what carrot do you use to wave at these people to attract <br />10 them as an employee at the -- as an attorney at your <br />11 prosecuting attorney's office? And you just mentioned <br />12 retention. But also -- I mean, it's not our job to pay off <br />13 their school loans. But it's just a fact of life that to <br />14 attend a college like Richardson School of Law, you're going <br />15 to have a large loan to pay off at the end. <br />16 MR. DAMERVILLE: Well, I can call on my military <br />17 background and say I suggested to one that you join the Army <br />18 Reserve, and he did. And then the reward I got is he went <br />19 out on military duty, so I got called back. <br />20 But I don't think student loans should be a factor <br />21 in what you make your ultimate decision with. When you're a <br />22 new prosecutor, we're going to work you to death. I mean, <br />23 that's just the way it is. That's the training that you have <br />24 to get.
