1 all you need to have is one vote and it's in. I know <br />2 that. But it's just to make a point and stick to that <br />3 point. <br />4 And, on this, I do not blame anyone in the <br />5 County -- I'm talking about citizens -- of anger, <br />6 frustration, to read the higher-ups, so to speak, to <br />7 get the kind of raise you propose. It matters not who <br />8 is responsible. Some thinks it's the administration <br />9 that does this. And I don't blame them for thinking <br />10 the mayor is responsible for this. But as you know, we <br />11 stay out of this. It's the first time I've talked to <br />12 any of you -- members of the commission about this. <br />13 You know, I thought about what can I come <br />14 here and say that is meaningful? But the more you <br />15 inquire about it -- and I'll pick on one, an easy <br />16 one -- for a long time, I thought of the great <br />17 inequality of money. I wish I had a magic wand to say, <br />18 "I'll give these people a raise." And, to me, the ones <br />19 that need the raise most are those on the lower scale. <br />20 This morning we had a meeting with regards to <br />21 what shall our policy be in regards to what Human <br />22 Resources to make things fair. And Bill was in there, <br />23 and I told him the same thing, you know. "How much <br />24 does the low man on the totem pole get paid?" And his <br />25 answer to me was about 18,000.
