Page 9
Councilmember Lee Loy's concern and transparency, I do
not believe that equality in pay for anybody should be
subject to public hearings. I don't know how the rest
of you feel, but I don't think there should be a public
hearing just to have pay -- or salaries equal or, you
know, justified.
CHR. ONO: You know what? Before we go
any further, Ms. Self has spent time on this issue,
too, I think, as well as Bill has. So, Amy, would you
share, you know, what you've been working on -- on this
also.
MS. SELF: Yes. I understand what you're
saying, Milton. And you guys already have public
meetings. You're required to under Sunshine Law. And
that's what you did when you made the decision to set
the salaries. So it's always been an open process. It
has to be by Sunshine Law. So, I don't know that it
would accomplish any more than what you accomplish by
complying with Sunshine Law.
Another thing that I pointed out to
Council Member Lee Loy is that there is a conflict
between what the Charter says and what subsection (f) of
her proposed Charter amendment says because, under her
section, it would require a two-thirds vote to approve
any salary that is increased or decreased by more than
ISLAND COURT REPORTING & TRANSCRIPTION SERVICES
(808) 933-9800
