Page 13 <br />1 were considering changing the rules to meet some of the <br />2 criteria that they had put, but I felt that they made <br />3 up their minds and no matter what we said, it wouldn't <br />4 have mattered because it was so quick, you know? It <br />5 was, "Any discussion?" No discussion. "Call for the <br />6 vote," and it was all nine votes because they had made <br />7 up their minds already. <br />8 So, if we do go down the road saying that we <br />9 want to alter some of the rules for the Salary <br />10 Commission, you know, so that it would come in <br />11 compliance, would it do any good to do that, because <br />12 it's going the charter amendment way? <br />13 MR. BRILHANTE: The Chair and myself and <br />14 Ms. Self have had discussions regarding this. and I <br />15 Think, right now, my opinion is that because the <br />16 November date for the election is so close in time, the <br />17 last thing we'd want to do is spend so much of our <br />18 time, effort, and energy with amending our rules now. <br />19 And then, because our proposed rule amendments aren't <br />20 directly aligned with the charter amendment and we <br />21 don't know what's going to happen with the charter <br />22 amendment as to whether or not it's going to get <br />23 approved -- my opinion and my recommendation is to hold <br />24 off on doing a rule amendment because if the charter <br />25 language passes, then we will have to do a rule <br />ISLAND COURT REPORTING & TRANSCRIPTION SERVICES <br />(808) 933-9800 <br />
