more work for the County? <br />4110 TANAKA: On the one hand, I guess I'm looking at staff because I work <br />closely with our staff in getting the information, getting all of the preliminary agendas <br />together, or helping to organize, so definitely, it would probably require additional staff <br />personnel on the Kona side. From the Commission standpoint, the Commissioners, as <br />far as the workload, I guess it would decrease if you set the boundary across the island <br />and one Commission would consider only the issues on the East side and other on the <br />West side. I wonder if there would be enough tp even have monthly meetings on the <br />East side. As it is, it's pretty light right now. Then too, would you have enough interest <br />by the public to serve on these Commissions, if that were the case, too. Good <br />question. <br />RAY: Roland. <br />HIGASHI: Leonard, in Oahu, how do they operate? <br />TANAKA: I think Oahu is the only one that is advisory. I believe the rest of <br />the islands have similar powers like we do. <br />RAY: Gary. <br />YOSHIYAMA: I have a question regarding the composition. We've got 9 Members <br />now, but from the 6 representative districts and 3 at large; or something to that effect, <br />right? <br />RAY: It was changed. <br />TANAKA: On the Planning Commission? <br />RAY: Yes. <br />YOSHIYAMA: Regarding the organization of the Commission, regarding <br />workload, have you considered, rather than revising the Charter, reorganizing the <br />Commission to handle - a creation of sub -committees or something like that, or do you <br />do that already? <br />TANAKA: As far as the workload, I don't think it's an issue with any of the <br />Commissioners right now. I think having the two meetings a month has improved our <br />schedules a lot. Again, we're meeting on the average, a half a day, so those of us who <br />have businesses can attend the Commission meetings in the morning and then go back <br />to work, if we choose, in the afternoon. So from the Commission standpoint, I don't <br />think it's a problem as far as workload. As far as segregating the duties, whenever we <br />
