CHARTER COMMISSION <br /> The Hawaii County Charter Commission will hold public <br /> hearings on the Hawaii County Charter in each district of the" <br /> island. The dates, times, and places of the public hearing are <br /> listed below. <br /> The public is invited to testify at these hearings. <br /> The Charter Commission's duty is to review the County <br /> Charter, and, if appropriate, to propose changes to the Charter, <br /> or a new Charter, which will then be voted upon by the <br /> electorate. <br /> • <br /> The County Charter sets forth the basic structure of County <br /> government. Among the issues which have been raised for the <br /> Charter Commission's consideration are the method of election of <br /> the County ,Council, the functions of the Mayor and the County <br /> Council, and the powers of County boards and commissions. <br /> The Charter Commission will welcome public testimony on <br /> these issues and on any other aspects of County government. <br /> The Charter Commission encourages those wishing to present <br /> testimony to submit written testimony in advance, however, this <br /> is not a requirement.
