CHARTER AMENDMENT BALLOT PAMPHLET <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> The county charter is the document which sets out the form <br /> of your county government. A number of amendments have been <br /> proposed to the county charter. You may vote on these proposed <br /> changes at the general election on November 7, 1990. If a <br /> majority of voters vote in favor of the amendment, it will become <br /> part of the county charter. <br /> At the voting booth, you will receive a charter amendment <br /> ballot with nine different questions: Proposals "1"-"9 . " If you <br /> favor theproposed change, you should vote "yes" on the, proposal. <br /> If you do not favor the change, you should vote "no. " <br /> The proposals are summarized below. <br /> ***************************************************************** <br /> 1 411 Proposal "1" <br /> Ballot Proposal "1" would change the county council to <br /> single-member districts. <br /> At present, the county council consists of nine members. <br /> Each council member is elected by the voters of the entire <br /> county. Each voter may vote on all nine council seats. Six <br /> council members must live within specific geographical districts, <br /> while three may live anywhere in the county. <br /> If Ballot Proposal "1" is passed, each member of the council <br /> would be elected from -a single-member district. There would be a <br /> total of nine districts and a total of nine council members. <br /> • Each voter would vote on one council seat. <br /> • The councilmember-would be required tolive in the district. <br /> qaa- <br />
