I have no answer at this time to qualify it but as long <br /> as I have been with the Fire Department they have not had any <br /> Commission to govern it. <br /> MR. THOMPSON: I thought it was quite obvious <br /> that we have improved from the card-playing, volleyball playing <br /> image to that of one of the greatest fire departments in the <br /> United States but I have no . .I feel there is still room for <br /> improvement, yes. <br /> MR. YANAGA: So as of now you are satisfied. . . <br /> MR. THOMPSON I am not satisfied. There is <br /> still room for improvement. We have come a long way in the <br /> past 30 years that I have worked for the Fire Department. As I <br /> mentioned, I think I can only illustrate it by the fact that it <br /> used to be a Fire Department that was known for the best volley- <br /> ball players in the county, and the best checker players and <br /> card players. But today we have people in the community looking <br /> up to us and, I believe, if you were to ask that the Fire <br /> Department be stricken from any responsibility or service on <br /> this island then somebody would have to answer for it to the <br /> public. <br /> MR.
