I have no play in it <br /> until I request for position vacancies and at that time they <br /> will refer to me several names , depending on the number of <br /> positions. <br /> CHAIRMAN SAKATA: Do you have a standard <br /> criteria for recruits? <br /> MR. THOMPSON: Civil Service has. <br /> CHAIRMAN SAKATA: In case they/fireman is con- <br /> sidered to be incompetent in his work, who does the firing? <br /> Do you do the firing, or the Personnel Department? <br /> MR. THOMPSON: I 'm the hiring and firing <br /> authority. <br /> CHAIRMAN SAKATA: You hire and fire, both. <br /> MR. THOMPSON: Yes. <br /> MR. ISHIDA: What is the number of personnel <br /> the Fire Department has now? <br /> MR. THOMPSON: At the present time, my strength <br /> is 159. <br /> MR. SCHUTTE: Mr. Thompson, in regards to the <br /> staffing of;-tYe;:depaa;trnent you are presented with a list of <br /> names of qualified applicants if you have openings to fill.
