<br />Communication Number 2018 - 11 <br />7. How to IDENTIFY a feature to see the associated data . You’ve located a subject <br />property using the Parcels layer and you wanted to know what type of information that <br />may be available to you. (Tip: you can do this with all GIS layers providing that there is a <br />check mark in the box next to the name of the layer.) <br />a. Navigate to the toolbar and click on the IDENTIFY tool. A dialog box <br />will pop - up and by default, the “Identify from” field will select <Top - <br />most layer> as your selection. <br />b. In the “ Identify from ” field , click <br />on the drop - down menu and <br />select “<All layers>” . ❶ <br />c. Note : You can also get to the <br />i dentify tool by right - clicking on a <br />layers name in the Table of <br />❶ <br />Contents. <br />d. In the display area, c lick on the <br />feature that you would l ike to get <br />information on. <br />e. The dialog box will fill with layer <br />information associated with your <br />selection location. <br />f. Note : if you want only specific <br />information on a particular <br />feature, select the preferred layer from the drop down menu. <br /> <br />8. Additional data can be attached to a feature through a <br />HYPERLINK . This feature allows the user to link to a <br />separate scanned document while in GIS. Most linked <br />documents are either in PDF or TIFF formats. Note : please <br />confirm that you have software that is capable of opening <br />both types of files. Not all layers contain hyperlinks. <br />a. HYPERLINKS can be found in the identify screen and <br />can be a ccessed by clicking on the link <br />located in a data field value. ❶ A link <br />can be recognized by the “lightning b olt” <br />❶ <br />icon located at the end of the link address . <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br /> <br />
