ACT 217 (A Bill for an Act Relating to <br />Service Animals) and the Joint Response from <br />Hawaii Civil Rights Commission, Disability <br />and Communication Access Board and the <br />State Civil Rights Commission <br />After Chair Shirachi explained the handouts, there <br />was discussion about the ACT 217. <br />Committee Member Nagasawa wanted to know <br />who enforces the Service Animal Act. <br />Chair Shirachi said that she would check with Ms. <br />Julie Rawlins. <br />Old Business <br />a. Bylaws Revision (discussed earlier) <br />Discussion <br />Committee Member Byron Yogi stressed a <br />Regarding <br />concern regarding the low participation and <br />Future Agenda <br />attendance of people who actually need services. <br />Items <br />He wanted to discuss ways to penetrate the <br />Community so that people who need the services <br />can get involved. <br />Chair Shirachi encouraged all members to get <br />involved with Committee outreach and education <br />about MCPD. <br />Corporation Council Ms. Hall suggested to have <br />the item of Community Outreach be added to <br />Septembers agenda. Chair Shirachi agreed. <br />Ms. Nagasawa asked if someone from Section 8 <br />housing would be able to attend the meeting. Ms. <br />Nagasawa said they now do room rentals and that <br />is not something that is common. It would be nice <br />to get more information on that. <br />Committee Member Penny Alcoran explained that <br />her involvement with students and family <br />members with disabilities has really helped with <br />outreach.
