Policy 96 Optimize use of the Pepe'ekeo substation to increase Police and Fire department presence in <br />the Planning Area and improve emergency response times in Rural South Hilo. <br />• Consider expanding or sharing N. Hilo policing jurisdiction to include parts of rural South <br />Hilo (Honomu and Pepe'ekeo) to increase response times in these rural areas; <br />Policy 97 Work with community members to develop volunteer firefighter capacity for the <br />Laupdhoehoe Fire Station. <br />Policy 98 Prioritize securing an emergency vehicle for Honoka'a fire station with the capacity for <br />providing safe service to Waipi'o Valley. <br />Policy 110 Use alternative energy sources at County facilities within the Planning Area. <br />■ Add electric vehicle charging stations at appropriate facilities; <br />■ Add solar lighting in appropriate parking areas; <br />■ Add photovoltaic systems and/or solar hot water systems to appropriate facilities. <br />2.6 Housing <br />Policy 63 Develop and implement a County -wide, cross -agency affordable housing plan. <br />• Develop affordable housing options within existing towns and villages, near services, <br />and critical infrastructure. <br />• Propose and support amendments to the County's taxing powers as a means to increase <br />the supply of affordable housing. <br />• Revise the Zoning Code, Chapter 25, relating to 'Ohana Dwellings and develop an <br />Accessory Dwelling Unit policy aimed at facilitating affordable housing and aging -in- <br />place opportunities.
