7 � Annual Report, 2018 <br />SERVING ACTIVE SENIORS AND CAREGIVERS <br />Through state grant funds, HCOA executed county -to -county and private contracts with <br />Hawai'i County Elderly Activities Division for the provision of services. These contracted <br />services for active seniors are listed here. <br />HCOA contracted for over 161 sessions of individual counseling, peer support groups, <br />and training to help caregiver's better cope with the burdens of care giving. HCOA also <br />contracted to service more than 72 caregivers providing them with over 7676 hours of <br />temporary relief from their care -giving responsibilities at home or an adult day care <br />setti ng. <br />HCOA's Elder Abuse Prevention Program provides a variety of legal services. This fiscal <br />year, HCOA contracted Legal Aid for the provision of legal services to an estimated 300 <br />individuals. HCOA also contracted HOPE Services Hawai'i to manage an elder abuse <br />prevention safe -haven program of two units for seniors at -risk for elder abuse, <br />neglect, or exploitation. <br />The Hawai'i County Nutrition Program (HCNP) served 970 seniors 64,252 USDA <br />federally approved meals. Congregate Nutrition Sites offer nutritious meals; nutrition <br />and health education information and activities; opportunities for essential shopping; <br />and fun socialization activities and events reducing isolation, depression, malnutrition, <br />and chronic health condition management. HCOA also provided 41,016 trips of <br />transportation to over 344 seniors to -and -from the 15 sites. <br />RETIRED SENIORS VOLUNTEER. PROCj"RAM, (RSN/P <br />The County of Hawai'i RSVP program continually recruits and maintains the largest <br />number of volunteers than any other county. In FY2018, Hawai'i County RSVP program <br />provided 1263 volunteers the opportunity to provide 114,121 hours of service at 230 <br />volunteer stations island -wide. <br />SEN IOI . 1, I N I_N ..'T N D E I-, EN F)l ,..w .-Tl , <br />Each year HCOA works closely with the Hawai'i County STEP program to ensure that <br />older adults have opportunities for returning to the work force. In FY2018, 38 seniors <br />were placed in supportive employment programs with the intention of securing employment. <br />In FY2018, Coordinated Services for the Elderly (CSE) provided over 1000 seniors with <br />transportation to -and -from congregate meal sites, medical and health related visits and <br />other community resource services. <br />
