FIRE CAPTAIN - 5 - 6.025 <br />For assignment to the Fire Prevention Captain only: <br />• The two (2) years of qualifying experience shall have been as a Fire Prevention <br />Inspector I in the Hawaii Fire Department. <br />License/Certificate Requirements: <br />• Possession of a valid State of Hawaii driver's license {Class 3 or higher) or any other <br />valid comparable driver license, <br />• a valid Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) Driver's Certificate of Competence to <br />operate HFD Type 1 motor vehicles, <br />• a current Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate or a current <br />Hawaii Fire Department Medical Certification, <br />• a current Hawaii Fire Department Aquatics Competency Certificate - Awareness <br />level, and <br />• a current First Responder or First Responder Refresher Certificate or an Emergency <br />Medical Responder (EMR) Certificate. <br />For assignment to the Hazardous Materials Response Team Captain: <br />In addition to the above license/certificate requirements, <br />• possession of a Certificate of Completion of the Hazardous Materials Technician <br />Certification curriculum. <br />For assignment to the Fire Search and Rescue Captain: <br />In addition to the above license/certificate requirements, <br />• possession of a current Hawaii Fire Department Aquatics Competency Certificate <br />for Operations level, and <br />• a current basic SCUBA diving certificate. <br />Note: <br />o Emergency Medical Technician, Mobile Intensive Care Technician, or other <br />nationally recognized certificates that are equivalent to or higher than a First <br />Responder or First Responder Refresher Certificate or Emergency Medical <br />Responder Certificate may be substituted for that certificate. <br />o Hawaii Fire Department Aquatics Competency Certificate for Awareness <br />Instructor, Operations level, Operations Instructor or Instructor Trainer that are <br />higher than the Hawaii fire Department Aquatics Competency Certificate for <br />the Awareness level may be substituted for that certificate. <br />o Hawaii Fire Department Aquatics Competency Certificate for Operations <br />Instructor or Instructor Trainer that are higher than the certificate for the <br />Operations level may be substituted for that certificate. <br />Knowledge of: <br />• Principles and practices of supervision and training, <br />• firefighting methods and operations, <br />• fire safety and prevention practices, procedures, rules, and laws, <br />• the geography of the assigned area and the location of streets, fire hydrants, <br />static water supplies, buildings and fire hazards, <br />• departmental rules, regulations, policies, and operating procedures, <br />• firefighting literature, <br />• functions of other public safety agencies and their activities. <br />
