FIRE CAPTAIN - 4 - 6.025 <br />• Confers with all volunteer district chiefs on activities of volunteer units. <br />• Performs other related duties as required. <br />Fire Prevention: <br />• Plans, directs, and coordinates the fire prevention activities in a specified <br />geographical area. <br />• Develops and directs the enforcement of fire safety codes, regulations, and laws. <br />• Directs fire safety inspections and fire investigations; participates in the more <br />difficult investigations. <br />• Plans, assigns, and reviews work of subordinates. <br />• Plans, develops, and coordinates various fire prevention projects and programs. <br />• Educates property owners in fire prevention codes and regulations. <br />• Plans, develops, and conducts informational and educational sessions on fire <br />prevention codes and regulations for business or community organizations. <br />• Reviews and approves construction plans and specifications for either new or <br />modified buildings and structures for fire hazards or violations of fire safety codes, <br />regulations, or law. <br />• Conducts inspections of more complex buildings and structures for the issuance of <br />Certificate of Occupancy. <br />• Maintains records and files on investigations, violations, and other operational <br />reports. <br />• May testify at hearings or in court. <br />• Instructs relief personnel on proper duties of the Fire Prevention Inspectors. <br />• Performs other related duties as required. <br />Minimum Qualifications Requirements: <br />Training and Experience: <br />• A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to <br />completion of two (2) years of general college from an accredited college or <br />university, and <br />• eight (8) years of progressive firefighting experience in the Hawaii Fire <br />Department, and <br />• two (2) years of which shall have been as a Fire Equipment Operator in the Hawai'i <br />Fire Department. <br />
