COUNTY OF HAWAPI - STATE OF HAWAPI <br /> T4pE,QF°„''�pT <br /> BILL <br /> . 60 <br /> (DRAFT 2) <br /> ORDINANCE . <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 15, ARTICLE 7, SECTION 15-62, OFT E <br /> AWAPI COUNTY CGDE 1983 (2016 EDITION,ASAMENDED), LATING TO THE <br /> MEMBERSHIP AN TENURE F THE VETERANS AVISA V COMMITTEE. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OFT E COUNTY OF AWAI`I: <br /> SECTION 1. Purpose. This ordinance reduces the list of veteran organizations in <br /> Section 15-62(b) to account for the maturing membership of the various organizations identified <br /> by the Veterans Advisory Committee and to expand and allow for new, emerging veteran <br /> organizations and veterans who provide valuable assistance on issues that are in alignment with <br /> the Veterans Advisory Committee. <br /> SECTION 2. Chapter 15, article 7, section 15-62, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 <br /> (2016 Edition, as amended), is amended to read as follows: <br /> "Section 15-62. Membership and tenure. <br /> (a) The members shall serve staggered terms of five years. <br /> (b) The membership of the committee shall include one representative each from the <br /> American Legion, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association, Big Island <br /> Retired Military Association, Disabled American Veterans, l4awai'i island <br /> Veterans Memonal Inc.,] and Veterans of Foreign Wars[, 4:.'. +Iaf > Orde,.of the <br /> PufpIe 5 <br /> Korean Waf Veterans Ofganiz-ation, Camp '11'afawa Detachment <br /> 41255 of the Mafine eague, I League of the United States, and th-e <br /> Combat r,.,rn,..+..: men's n sseeiati,r]. The committee shall also include [one] seven <br /> at-large [member] members. Seven or more of the twelve members of the <br /> committee shall have served in the United States Uniformed Services; provided <br /> that the committee may still meet and conduct business if due to a vacancy or <br /> vacancies less than seven members have served in the United States Uniformed <br /> Services. <br /> (c) Initially, two members shall be appointed for a term of one year, two members <br /> shall be appointed for a term of two years, three members shall be appointed for a <br /> term of three years, three members shall be appointed for a term of four years, and <br /> three members shall be appointed for a term of five years. <br /> (d) Any vacancy on the committee shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired <br /> term, but members whose terms have expired may continue to serve until their <br /> successors have been appointed and confirmed. <br />
