REPORT OF THE <br />LEGISLATIVE APPROVALS AND ACQUISITIONS COMMITTEE <br />DATE: December 5, 2023 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Hilo, Hawaii <br />TIME: 11:51 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Re: Comm. No. 617/Res. No. 369-23 <br />Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions, to which was referred Resolution <br />No. 369-23, reports as follows: <br />Resolution No. 369-23, transmitted by Deanna S. Sako, via Communication No. 617, dated <br />November 16, 2023, authorizes the Office of Housing and Community Development to award funds <br />to various nonprofit organizations for programs addressing Housing and Homelessness. <br />This resolution proposes 22 grant awards to 13 different nonprofit organizations for a total of <br />$9,794,459.33 in funding that was derived from Tier Two property tax revenues. <br />Housing Administrator Susan Kunz and Housing and Community Development Specialist Sharon <br />Hirota were available in chambers. Chair Holeka Inaba asked Ms. Kunz and Ms. Hirota to verbally <br />summarize this process. <br />Ms. Kunz commented on the complexity of this issue and explained the process together with <br />Ms. Hirota.
