COUNTY OF HAWAI I -: STATE OF HAWAI I <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 566 24 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KU`IKAHI <br /> MEDIATION CENTER INC. FOR ITS BASIC MEDIATION TRAINING FOR <br /> VOLUNTEERS. <br /> WHEREAS, Ku'ikahi Mediation Center Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose <br /> mission is to empower individuals, organizations, and communities to manage conflict through <br /> its mediation, facilitation, and education services; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ku'ikahi Mediation Center Inc. offers mediation, facilitation, and training <br /> to enhance the capabilities of diverse individuals and groups in resolving interpersonal and <br /> community disputes; and <br /> WHEREAS, the community mediation services provided by Ku'ikahi Mediation Center <br /> Inc. offer a vital alternative to litigation,particularly benefiting economically disadvantaged <br /> populations who lack access to legal representation and face challenges navigating the legal <br /> system as unrepresented litigants; and <br /> WHEREAS, mediation is a self-empowering, cost-effective, and flexible process that <br /> ensure parties retain control over the outcome, leading to enduring resolutions; and <br /> WHEREAS, in the 2022-2023 fiscal year, Ku'ikahi Mediation Center Inc. served 896 <br /> clients across 406 closed cases, with 32 professionally trained volunteer mediators and <br /> apprentices donating over 1,531 hours of mediation services and participating in free, in-house <br /> continuing education activities offered by the center; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ku'ikahi Mediation Center Inc. will conduct a 4-day Basic Mediation <br /> Training in Hilo that will be held within the first few months in 2025, to ensure the recruitment <br /> and retention of skilled volunteer mediators capable of assisting clients in various life-impacting <br /> situations; and <br />
