JNty.O: <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br />� OF Nth <br />RESOLUTION NO. 711 24. <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA O PUNA TO <br />SUPPORT THE BLACK SANDS BEACH COMMUNITY GARDEN'S KEIKI <br />RESILIENCE PROJECT. <br />WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer service organization <br />whose mission is to provide community resources to maintain a safe and healthy community <br />through environmental education, hands-on projects, advocacy, watchdogging, and land trusting; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Malama O Puna serves as the fiscal sponsor for the Black Sands Beach <br />Community Garden, an entirely community -driven initiative that increases awareness and action <br />around food security and sustainability in Lower Puna; and <br />WHEREAS, Black Sands Beach Community Garden provides a safe and nurturing <br />environment for Lower Puna youth, fostering holistic well-being, self-sufficiency, and a sense of <br />responsibility toward the future through hands-on projects and resilience initiatives; and <br />WHEREAS, the Keiki Resilience Project is a staple resource for low-income families in <br />the Black Sands Beach community, providing fresh, nutritious food to those facing food <br />insecurity, fostering sustainable gardening knowledge and skills among local youth, ensuring <br />access to essential personal health items, and offering education on managing invasive species <br />and restoring native trees impacted by the 2018 volcanic eruption; and <br />WHEREAS, Malama O Puna has requested funds for feminine hygiene products, <br />diapers, oral health items, formulas, nutritional supplements or vitamins, healthy snacks, juices, <br />and teas; and gardening supplies such as fertilizer, insect control, black cinders, gloves, cups, <br />wheelbarrow, paint, printer ink, tape, `ohi`a tree seedlings, and a 1 Ox20 shaded house to support <br />the Black Sands Community Garden and Keiki Resilience Project; and <br />
