REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON <br />GOVERNMENTAL OPERATIONS AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS <br />DATE: January 21, 2025 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br />TIME: 9:02 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />I tWRIT,I_�$ _M I :3U <br />Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs, to which was referred <br />Communication No. 89, reports as follows: <br />Communication No. 89, transmitted by Mayor C. Kimo Alameda, dated January 2, 2025, <br />requests the Council's review and confirmation of Greg Yamada to the Police Commission. <br />Executive Assistant to the Mayor Micah Alameda was present in the Kona Chambers to <br />introduce Mr. Yamada, who was also present in the Kona Chambers, to the Committee. <br />Mr. Yamada was formerly a Police Officer, and both he and Mr. Alameda shared how important <br />it is to have someone with direct experience serve on this Commission. <br />Committee Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi requested that the Mayor's Office notify the Council <br />Member for that district regarding fixture nominations from their districts prior to Council <br />meetings. <br />Committee Members Ashley Kierkiewicz and Michelle Galimba spoke in favor of the <br />appointment. <br />Pursuant to Article VII, Chapter 2, Section 7-2.2 of the Hawaii County Charter, members of the <br />Police Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council. <br />Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs is in accord with the purpose <br />and intent of Communication No. 89, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of <br />Greg Yamada to the Police Commission. <br />a Sri <br />AYES <br />NOES <br />ABS <br />EX <br />GALIMBA <br />X <br />HUSTACE <br />X <br />INABA <br />X <br />KAGIWADA <br />X <br />KANEALI`I-KLEINFELDER <br />X <br />KIERKIEWICZ <br />X <br />KIMBALL <br />X <br />ONISHI <br />X <br />VILLEGAS <br />X <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENTAL <br />A low I al <br />JEA . . �,P CHAIR <br />REPORTGOEAC <br />ADOPTED: FEB <br />' <br />
