If the fallen leaves are not removed, they decay and become slippery. Although the crews can use leaf blowers to clear the sidewalks, the blowers can not effectively clean the streets. Approximately three people have complained to the Department of Public Works in the last five to six years about slipping and falling on leaves in this area. The amendments contained in Bill 52 were proposed to help rectify this situation. Parking Needs to be Prohibited to Effectively Clean the Street In the past, crews have tried to clean between parked cars. This does not allow the crews to remove all of the detritus and has been found to be not effective. T~av and Time of Street Cleanipg~ Concerns and Limitations As a result of ongoing discussions that have taken place between the DPW and some of the Hotels about this issue over the last 12 to 15 years, the Department avoids cleaning Banyan Drive on Fridays and Saturdays because of the high traffic at the hotels during these evenings.
