Lanikaula Street <br /> Hilo, HI 96720 <br /> RE: RURUAU/RINOOLE STREET INTERSECTION/ONE-WAY TRAFFIC IN <br /> MARAI DIRECTION <br /> Dear Mr. Uyeda: <br /> Pursuant to our several phone conversations, the latest being at <br /> about 3:05 p.m., December 9, 1996, you were informed of the very <br /> dangerous situation created at the above intersection. <br /> For instance, at about 2:49 p.m., December 9, 1996, there was <br /> another near miss accident involving a gray Explorer vehicle, <br /> which was proceeding in a makai direction from the mauka <br /> Borthwick side of the intersection. A screeching near collision <br /> happened as a car proceeding in the downtown direction failed to <br /> stop, as many cars do. <br /> This situation has been happening more and more because vehicles <br /> proceeding in both the downtown and Puna directions are not <br /> stopping at all. We, along with many others in the community and <br /> many of our clients have witnessed so many near vehicular <br /> accidents, vehicular/bicycle accidents and vehicular/pedestrian <br /> accidents. <br /> We also have noted that large trucks, heavy equipment, large <br /> stretchouts and buses have had extreme difficulty making the <br /> turns. In fact, our rock wall was has been damaged. We had to <br /> repair it at our expense. <br /> It should be additionally noted that the signs have also been <br /> knoc}:ed down on several occasions. The yellow posts have also <br /> been damaged. <br /> Also, please be informed that, on a temporary basis only, our <br /> office volunteered to temporarily relinquish two(2) parking <br /> stalls in front of our office.
