COIJTY O I~AW.I4 STATE Off" ~IA~VAI`I <br /> .~O~i..~IJTIOl~ ~T®. <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE HAWAII COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> (HFD) TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE HAWAII VOLCANOES <br /> NATIONAL P ARK (PARK), U. S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR, NATIONAL <br /> PARK SERVICE (NPS) TO PROVIDE 24-HOUR PARAMEDIC AMBULANCE <br /> SERVICE TO THE PARK AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES IN THE <br /> VOLCANO AREA. <br /> WHEREAS, prior to December, 1999, the United States Army provided to the <br /> Park and surrounding communities, 24-hour ambulance service originating at the Kilauea <br /> Military Camp; and <br /> WHEREAS, as of December, 1999, the Army withdrew its 24-hour ambulance <br /> service, which resulted in the need to dispatch ambulance services from Hilo, which is a <br /> forty-five or sixty minute drive; and <br /> WHEREAS, due to the critical need for emergency ambulance services in the <br /> <br /> Volcano area, funding has been provided for such services by way of a congressional <br /> appropriation; and <br /> WHEREAS, a Cooperative Agreement must be executed between the NPS and the <br /> <br /> HFD; and <br /> <br />
