COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 243 04 <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN <br /> AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF <br /> TRANSPORTATION, PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, FOR A COMMUNITY BASED <br /> TRAFFIC COORDINATOR GRANT FOR THE HAWAII COUNTY POLICE <br /> DEPARTMENT <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Public Affairs Office -Safe <br /> Community Program has authorized funding towards the Hawaii County Police Department's <br /> Community Based Traffic Coordinator Program; and <br /> WHEREAS, this grant funds will be used to reduce the number of alcohol, speed and seat belt <br /> non-use related traffic fatalities and injuries by providing a community based coordinator to plan and <br /> coordinate activities and to be a liaison between state, county and community agencies and <br /> organizations; and <br /> WHEREAS, the coordinator will provide support to existing traffic safety groups, develop an <br /> active M.A.D.D. group, stage Shatter Dreams programs and work to improve traffic safety and <br /> <br /> facilitate programs; and <br /> WHEREAS, training will provided to the coordinator, qualifying the coordinator as an <br /> Intoxilyzer supervisor and familiarizing the coordinator with the administrative driver license process; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the funds provided by the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation are <br /> <br /> derived from grants provided by the federal government; and <br /> <br />
