As I indicated during our conversation, in our program budget documents and specifically the position expenditure cost document, employees currently holding "Temporary Position" (35 Fire Fighter Recruits) salaries and wages are provided for from the various vacant positions. Temporary positions are unfunded and all salaries and wage costs are provided for through vacant position funds. Further, as I indicated we have maintained a very aggressive recruitment, hiring, and promotional process schedule aimed at filling all vacancies in the most effective and efficient manner without the compromise of quality candidate selection and training or a compromise of quality service and safety. To date (since 2002), we have completed the selection and hiring of over 164 new employees as well as promoted 133 personnel. Given our limited resources, I am not only proud of these accomplishments, but also confident that we are meeting our goals and objectives in the most effective manner.
