vv w Y. <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ••~0l~M~~ <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 490 d8 <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A VOLUNTEER FIRE <br /> COMPANY AND UNIT WITHIN THE KANEHOA SUBDIVISION OF THE SOUTH <br /> KOHALA DISTRICT. <br /> WHEREAS, the Kanehoa subdivision and the adjacent subdivisions of the South Kohala <br /> <br /> District, inclusive of, but not limited to, Kawaihae, Waimea Landmark Estates, Anekona, <br /> <br /> Kamuela View Estates, and Lalamilo House Lots, are home for many island residents; and <br /> WHEREAS, these azeas are regularly affected by drought conditions and have <br /> demonstrated a history of impact by wildfires; and <br /> WHEREAS, the neazest location of fire protection services is the South Kohala Fire <br /> Station located near the 72 mile post of the Queen Ka`ahumanu Highway, approximately six <br /> miles from the nearest subdivision at risk; and <br /> WHEREAS, the establishment of a volunteer fire company in the aforementioned area <br /> would greatly enhance the response of fire protection services and help to minimize the threat <br /> and risk of wildfires; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Kanehoa Community Association has expressed and demonstrated a <br /> commitment to establish and sustain a cadre of volunteer fire fighters and is supportive of a <br /> partnership with all adjacent communities and subdivisions; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Kanehoa Community Association is committed to fire safety, <br /> education, and prevention through such programs as "Firewise"; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, that the <br /> Hawaii Fire Department support the establishment of a volunteer fire company within the <br /> Kanehoa subdivision, which will assist in the provision of fire fighting and educational resources <br /> for the future benefit of residents in the South Kohala community; and <br /> <br />
