COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> fir•••• ,A <br /> • os'M' <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 385 10 <br /> A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MAYOR AND THE ADMINISTRATION OF <br /> THE COUNTY TO EXPLORE THE POTENTIAL FOR AN AGREEMENT TO LEASE <br /> AN AREA ADJACENT TO THE HAWAII ISLAND HUMANE SOCIETY FACILITY IN <br /> WEST HAWAII TO ALLOW FOR EXPANSION OF THE EXISTING FACILITY. <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawai`i Island Humane Society's (HIHS) West Hawai`i branch was <br /> established 45 years ago to accommodate the needs of the Kona Community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Kona Community's dramatic increase in population since the HIHS <br /> West Hawaii Branch's opening has consequently increased the demand for its services; and <br /> WHEREAS, the HIHS requires land to expand its operations in West Hawaii; and <br /> WHEREAS, the land presently occupied by HIHS's West Hawai`i facility could be <br /> expanded by utilizing County- controlled property adjacent to the existing facility, which is <br /> presently used by the County for storage; and <br /> WHEREAS, the present location of the West Hawai`i branch of the HIHS allows for the <br /> facility to best serve the needs of the community; and <br /> WHEREAS, future park expansion plans to the north (Regional Park) further reinforce <br /> the logic of remaining at the present location; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it <br /> requests the Mayor and the Administration of the County of Hawai`i to explore the potential for <br /> an agreement of a leasehold with the Hawaii Island Humane Society to expand the footprint of <br /> the West Hawaii branch of the Hawaii Island Humane Society. <br />
