COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />BILL NO. 196 <br />ORDINANCE NO. -2 57 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14, ARTICLE 1, OF THE HAWAII <br />COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION, AS AMENDED), RELATING TO ALCOHOLIC <br />BEVERAGES. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: <br />SECTION 1. The purpose of this measure is to allow the judiciary more <br />sentencing options of individuals who unlawfully drink alcoholic beverages in public <br />places. Many of these offenders suffer serious drinking problems and could benefit from <br />terms of probation that require substance abuse treatment, counseling or a geographic ban <br />from places where the illegal drinking occurs. <br />SECTION 2. Chapter 14, article 1, section 14-6, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 <br />Edition, as amended), is amended to read as follows: <br />"Section 14-6. Penalty. <br />than S500.] A violation of this article shall constitute apetty misdemeanor. Anyep rson <br />violating any provision of this article shall be guilty of a petty misdemeanor, and upon <br />conviction thereof, shall be punishable by a term of imprisonment of not more than thirty <br />days, a fine not to exceed $1000, or both." <br />
