No. 90 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 1:17 pm <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Agriculture, Water and Energy Sustainability,to which was referred <br /> Comm. No. 90, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 90,transmitted by Mayor Billy Kenoi, dated January 11, 2013,nominates <br /> Anthony H. Sylvester, II to a 2-year term on the Game Management Advisory Commission. <br /> Mr. Sylvester is a lifelong resident of Hawai`i. He is employed by the National Radio <br /> Astronomy Observatory VLBA as a systems specialist. Mr. Sylvester states that he is not <br /> affiliated with any political party. <br /> Executive Assistant to the Mayor Charmaine Shigemura introduced Mr. Anthony H. Sylvester, II <br /> as the District 3 nominee for the Game Management Advisory Commission. <br /> Mr. Sylvester was present in the Hilo Council Chambers and stated that he is a third generation <br /> hunter, fisherman, and gatherer and was taught by his father the value of nature so he <br /> understands sustainability. He stated the vision of the Commission is to manage all wildlife as a <br /> sustainable resource for current and future generations, and the mission statement is to preserve <br /> and protect our island way of life, be it public access, hunting, fishing, gathering, or other uses of <br /> our public land. He further stated that he was involved in the formation of the Commission and <br /> for the past six months has worked with the community, government agencies, and political <br /> leaders. He closed by stating the he wants to be a voice for the people of the island in decisions <br /> for both land and water and to represent the rights of current and future generations. <br /> Council Member Onishi thanked Mr. Sylvester for stepping up to represent his district and stated <br /> that he hopes the State will listen to the voices of the hunters. <br /> Mr. Sylvester is not required to be present at the final confirmation before the full Council. <br /> Pursuant to Hawai`i County Charter Section 6-9.3,there shall be a game management advisory <br /> commission consisting of nine members who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by <br /> the council. <br /> AWESC Rept.No. 3 <br />
