No. 90 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 1:17 pm <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Agriculture, Water and Energy Sustainability, to which was referred <br /> Comm. No. 90, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 90, transmitted by Mayor Billy Kenoi, dated January 11, 2013, nominates <br /> Paul E. Bueltmann to a 4-year term on the Game Management Advisory Commission. <br /> Mr. Bueltmann is a lifelong resident of Hawai`i. He is employed by HELCO as an Information <br /> Services Supervisor. Mr. Bueltmann states that he is not affiliated with any political party. <br /> Executive Assistant to the Mayor Charmaine Shigemura introduced Mr. Paul E. Bueltmann as <br /> the District 4 nominee for the Game Management Advisory Commission. <br /> Mr. Bueltmann was present in the Hilo Council Chambers and stated that he moved to the Big <br /> Island from Oahu after high school and is raising his family here. He further stated that many <br /> people on the island are connected to hunting and fishing, which is why the Charter amendment <br /> to form the Commission passed overwhelmingly by a vote of 2 to 1. He also expressed the need <br /> to strike a balance and that proper management of resources does not mean building fences or <br /> shooting animals from helicopters. He concluded by stating the need to be good stewards of the <br /> land and managing the resources given to pass on the legacy of sustainability and self reliance to <br /> future generations. <br /> Council Member Ilagan thanked Mr. Bueltmann for the time spent talking to him and stated that <br /> he looks forward to Mr.Bueltmann's fine work on the Commission. <br /> Council Member Ford confirmed that Mr. Bueltmann hunts mammals on a monthly basis. <br /> Mr. Bueltmann is not required to be present at the final confirmation before the full Council. <br /> Pursuant to Hawai`i County Charter Section 6-9.3, there shall be a game management advisory <br /> commission consisting of nine members who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by <br /> the council. <br /> AWESC Rept.
