Ford, dated August 13, 2013. Prohibits the <br />cultivation, development, or use of any genetically modified organism (GMO), or <br />to genetically modify any specific or non - specific parts of an organism's genome. <br />Exempts state or federally licensed medical or agricultural research institutions <br />provided all activity is located in a biosafety level 3 containment facility. Allows <br />those currently engaged in GMO practices to continue for a period of 30 months, <br />provided operations are not increased or expanded, and that those operations be <br />registered with the Department of Environmental Management within 90 days of <br />the effective date of the ordinance with a registration fee of $100 per location per <br />year. <br />Serving the Interests of the People of Our Island <br />Hawaii County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br />
