• .�Jr`v�oF M��J <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> .a <br /> qTt OF•M►i <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 200 13 <br /> A RESOLUTION URGING THE PLANNING DIRECTOR TO NAME THE ACCESS <br /> ROAD TO THE WEST HAWAII VETERANS CEMETERY "KE ALA KOA," WHICH <br /> TRANSLATES TO "THE TRAIL OF WARRIORS." <br /> WHEREAS, effective July 24, 1998, Ordinance No. 98-82 officially named the West <br /> Hawai`i Veterans Cemetery "West Hawai`i Veterans Cemetery-Pu`u Ho`omaha 0 Na Po`e Koa <br /> O Hawai`i Komohana," which translates to "Resting Place (or cemetery) of the Warriors (or <br /> soldiers) of West Hawai`i"; and <br /> WHEREAS, on August 28, 2003, the Governor of the State of Hawai`i signed Executive <br /> Order No. 3994 to set aside land identified as the "West Hawai`i Veterans Cemetery"to be under <br /> the control and management of the County of Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation manages and maintains the West <br /> Hawai`i Veterans Cemetery-Pu`u Ho`omaha 0 Na Po`e Koa 0 Hawai`i Komohana(hereinafter <br /> "West Hawai`i Veterans Cemetery"); and <br /> WHEREAS, the access road into the West Hawai`i Veterans Cemetery is unnamed; and <br /> WHEREAS, on February 5, 2013, representatives from the West Hawai`i Veterans <br /> Council, Inc., requested that the access road to the West Hawai`i Veterans Cemetery be named; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the West Hawai`i Veterans Council, Inc., consists of representatives from <br /> Camp Tarawa Detachment#1255 of the Marine Corps League, the Big Island Retired Military <br /> Association, the Korean War Veterans Association, the American Legion Department of <br /> Hawai`i, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12122; and <br /> WHEREAS, on August 15, 2013, the Hawai`i County Veterans Advisory Committee <br /> voted unanimously in favor of naming the access road to the West Hawai`i Veterans Cemetery <br /> "Ke Ala Koa," which translates to "The Trail of Warriors"; and <br />
