HAWAVI POLICE COMMISSION REGULAR SESSION MINUTES OCTOBER 22, 2010 OLD MAYOR'S KONA OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM INVOCATION Commissioner Sumja gave an invocation. CALL TO ORDER Chair Whittemore called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. ROLL CALL Present: Tom Whittemore, Chair Kenneth T. Ono, Commissioner T. Ka`ili Pe`a- Ferrari, Commissioner Michael B. Sumja, Commissioner Leroy J. Victorine, Commissioner Also Present: Paul K. Ferreira, Deputy Police Chief Derek Pacheco, Assistant Chief Henry Tavares, Assistant Chief James O'Connor, Captain Lincoln S. Ashida, Corporation Counsel Josie Pelayo, Secretary Absent: Carol R. Ignacio, Commissioner Michelle L. Kualii, Commissioner Donn S. Mende, Commissioner APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Ono moved to approve the agenda. Commissioner Sumja seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS EDDIE CORDEIRO (Correspondence 2010 -11) stated that he has respect for everyone there expect for the police officers. He went to court twice and won his case. After the Police Commission's meeting in Hilo, he was stopped for his blue license plate cover. Police officers use tinted license plate covers. He showed a tinted gray cover that police officers use. He won about using the blue tinted cover. The officer who stopped him was really nice, but not Sergeant Koi. Randy also gave him attitude. There area lot of officers with attitude. He got a letter from the Chief that they do monthly and annual inspections. The Chief said he would talk to his supervisors. He asked if he can put his license plate cover back. The first time he won in court he asked the lady if he could put his license plate cover back on, she said, "I guess." So he put it back on but got a ticket again. He will give it a month, and if he sees officers with covers, he will go to the newspaper.
