<br />LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />JULY 19, 2012 <br /> <br />The Leeward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:40 a.m. in the West Hawai‘i Civic <br />Center, Community Center, Building G, 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway, Kailua-Kona, <br />Hawai‘i, with Vice Chair Lani Bowman presiding. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Lani Bowman, Brandi Beaudet, Thomas Hickcox, Wayne Iokepa <br />and Thomas Whittemore <br /> <br />ABSENT AND EXCUSED: Geraldine Giffin and Richard Nelson, III <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Ivan Torigoe (Deputy Corporation Counsel), BJ Leithead Todd (Planning <br />Director), Daryn Arai (Planning Program Manager), Jeff Darrow (Planner), Kiran Emler <br />(Department of Public Works, Engineering Division – until 11:45 a.m.), and Noriko Sauer <br />(Commission Secretary) <br /> <br />And approximately 13 people from the public in attendance. <br /> <br />A quorum was present. The Vice Chair called the meeting to order and introduced the <br />Commissioners and staff to members of the public, and described the procedure for public <br />testimony. <br /> <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC – No statements from the public were taken at this time. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />APPLICANT: KOHALA WISHING WELL, LLC (SPP-12-134) <br /> <br />th <br />Special Permit to allow the establishment of a pre-K through 8 Grade non-profit country school <br />and learning center for up to 50 students and value-based adult education evening classes on 3.357 <br />of land situated in the State Land Use Agricultural District. The property is located on Hō‘ea Road <br />approximately 1.2 miles north from the Akoni-Pule Highway-Hō‘ea Road intersection, Ka‘auhuhu <br />Homesteads, North Kohala, TMK: 5-8-008:040. <br /> <br />The Commission took up this item at 9:43 a.m. with approximately 13 people from the public in <br />attendance. <br /> <br />Mr. Darrow stated that the applicant had withdrawn the request. There was no one from the public <br />wishing to testify in regard to this application. The Commission accepted the withdrawal by <br /> <br />consensus. <br /> <br />APPLICANT: KOHANAIKI SHORES, LLC (SMA-12-50) <br /> <br />Special Management Area Use Permit to allow the development of a frontage road along the makai <br />side of the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway from the Huliko‘a Drive intersection at the Queen <br />Ka‘ahumanu Highway to Kohanaiki Way, Kohanaiki, North Kona, TMK: 7-3-009: portions of 16 <br />and 18. <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
