<br />LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />MARCH 19, 2015 <br /> <br />The Leeward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:33 a.m. in the West Hawai‘i Civic <br />Center, Community Center, Building G, 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway, Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, <br />with Chairman Brandi Beaudet presiding. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Brandi Beaudet, Thomas Hickcox, Collin Kaholo, Keith Unger, <br />Thomas Whittemore and Barbara Nobriga (until 11:24 a.m.) <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Danny Patel (Deputy Corporation Counsel), Duane Kanuha (Planning Director), <br />Jeff Darrow (Planner), Christian Kay (Planner) and Noriko Sauer (Commission Secretary) <br /> <br />And approximately 55 people from the public in attendance. <br /> <br />A quorum was present. Chair Beaudet called the meeting to order, and introduced the <br />Commissioners and staff to members of the public. <br /> <br />Mr. Kanuha announced that this was Commissioner Hickcox’s last meeting, and recognized his years <br />of service on the Commission by presenting him with the Mayor’s Certificate of Appreciation. <br /> <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC – No statements were presented under this section of the <br />agenda. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />APPLICANT: KONA CASTLE RANCH, LLC (SPP 15-177) <br /> <br />Application for a Special Permit to establish a 5-bedroom bed and breakfast operation within an <br />existing dwelling and additional bedrooms and the use of portions of the dwelling and surrounding <br />area for special events, all of which will occur on approximately 5 acres of land situated within the <br />State Land Use Agricultural District. The property is located east (mauka) of Old Māmalahoa <br />Highway approximately one (1) mile north of the intersection of the Old Māmalahoa Highway and <br />Hawai‘i Belt Road in Honalo, North Kona, Hawai‘i, TMK: 7-9-002:005 (portion). <br /> <br />The Commission took up this item at 9:38 a.m. with approximately 60 people from the public in <br />attendance. <br /> <br />(SEE EXHIBIT A) <br /> <br />APPLICANT: LALAMILO FARM PARTNERS, LP (Amend SPP 77-20/SPP 378) <br /> <br />Request to amend Special Permit No. 378 to allow the establishment of a fitness center; refrigerated <br />box truck parking area; bakery; honey storage and distribution facility; butter processing, storage and <br />distribution facility; limited retail sales area and related improvements on approximately 0.5 acre of <br />land situated within the State Land Use Agricultural District. The subject property is located on the <br />north side of Lalamilo Farm Road approximately 900 feet west of its intersection with the <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
