BSt.Michael-SMA10-44.jma 11-04-20 <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII PLANNING DEPARTMENT <br /> BACKGROUND REPORT <br /> SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL CHURCH <br /> SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA USE PERMIT (SMA 10-44) <br /> SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL CHURCH is requesting an amendment to <br /> Condition No. 3 (time to complete construction) of Special Management Area Use Permit <br /> No. 10-000044, which was issued in 2010 to allow the construction of a church, rectory, parish <br /> hall and related improvements to replace the former Saint Michael the Archangel Church that <br /> was damaged during the 2006 earthquake. The approximately 3.19-acre property is located on <br /> the northeast(mauka) side of Alii Drive, approximately 330 feet south of the intersection with <br /> Hualalai Road, Hienaloli 2nd,North Kona, Hawai`i, TMK: 7-5-008:006. <br /> REQUEST <br /> 1. Proposed Development: The applicant is requesting a five-year time extension to <br /> comply with Condition No. 3 (time to complete construction) of Special Management <br /> Area Use Permit No. 10-000044,which was issued in 2010 to allow the reconstruction of <br /> Saint Michael the Archangel Church and related improvements on approximately 3.19 <br /> acres of land within the Special Management Area. The applicant has significantly <br /> reduced the overall scope and size of the proposed buildings, however, the original <br /> project consisted of the following: <br /> • A church that is 9,455 square feet in size with a 1,468-square foot attic. <br /> • Bell tower and cross, which is proposed to be 73 feet in height. <br /> • A two-story Parrish Hall that is 11,030 square feet in size with a 2,902-square foot <br /> exit balcony. <br /> • A parish ministries/rectory structure that is 5,635 square feet in size. <br /> • Parking. <br /> • Landscaping. <br /> (Planning Department Exhibit 1—Application to Amend Special Management Area <br /> Use Permit 10-000044) <br /> 2.
