<br />LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />OCTOBER 18, 2012 <br /> <br />The Leeward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:35 a.m. in the West Hawai‘i Civic <br />Center, Community Center, Building G, 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway, Kailua-Kona, <br />Hawai‘i, with Chair Geraldine Giffin presiding. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Geraldine Giffin, Brandi Beaudet, Thomas Hickcox, <br />Wayne Iokepa and Richard Nelson, III <br /> <br />ABSENT AND EXCUSED: Lani Bowman and Thomas Whittemore <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Ivan Torigoe (Deputy Corporation Counsel), BJ Leithead Todd (Planning <br />Director), Daryn Arai (Planning Program Manager), Jeff Darrow (Planner), Maija Cottle (Planner), <br />Kiran Emler (Department of Public Works, Engineering Division – until 10:18 a.m.) and <br />Noriko Sauer (Commission Secretary) <br /> <br />And approximately 20 people from the public in attendance. <br /> <br />A quorum was present. The Chair called the meeting to order and introduced the Commissioners <br />and staff to members of the public, and described the procedure for public testimony. <br /> <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC – No statements were presented under this section of the <br />agenda. <br /> <br />The Chair announced her recusal from Agenda Item No. 1 due to her professional and personal <br />relationship with the applicant, and designated Commissioner Nelson as the Chair Pro Tem for that <br />portion of the meeting. There were no objections. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />APPLICANT: FUMIE BONK (SLU 12-034/REZ 12-156) <br /> <br />Applications for a State Land Use Boundary Amendment from Agricultural to Rural and a Change <br />of Zone from Agricultural-40-acres (A-40a) to Residential and Agricultural-0.5-acre (RA-.5a) for <br />approximately 1.0046 acres of land. The property is located at the northeast intersection of <br />Māmalahoa Highway and Kakanihia Place, Pu‘ukapu Homesteads, Waimea, North Kohala, <br />Hawai‘i, TMK: 6-4-001: 099. <br /> <br />The Commission took up this item at 9:39 a.m. with approximately 18 people from the public in <br />attendance. <br /> <br />(SEE EXHIBIT A) <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
